Roads you will drive at Raheny

Routes head along the Howth Road, through Raheny village, into the estates around Kilbarrack and Harmonstown. Some routes go towards the coast road near St Anne's Park. Expect residential driving, village traffic, and some faster stretches.

Approximate route based on known test roads. Actual routes vary by tester.

Key roads on Raheny test routes

Howth Road Station Road Raheny Road Kilbarrack Road Harmonstown Road Watermill Road All Saints Road

Junctions to know

Howth Road / Raheny Road junction, traffic lights with heavy through traffic
Station Road / Kilbarrack Road, busy junction near the DART station
Harmonstown Road railway bridge, narrow with poor visibility

Tricky spots at Raheny

The roads around Raheny are typical mature Dublin suburbs. Tree-lined residential streets, the busy Howth Road, and some narrow sections near the coast. Expect DART level crossings, school zones, and the usual mix of parked cars narrowing the road.

Howth Road traffic

Heavy traffic in both directions. Lane discipline matters, especially near bus stops and the DART bridge.

Raheny village

Narrow main street with parallel parking on both sides. Meeting oncoming traffic while staying in lane is the challenge.

Harmonstown Road railway bridge

Single lane effective width. You need to judge priority correctly when meeting oncoming traffic.

Kilbarrack estate junctions

Give way lines at T-junctions with poor sightlines from parked cars. Take your time.

Tips for passing at Raheny

All Saints Park is a cul-de-sac. Your instructor will need to turn around after dropping you off.
The Howth Road is the backbone of most test routes. Get very comfortable driving it in traffic.
DART crossings along the route have barriers that come down. Do not queue across them.
Raheny village is tight. Practice meeting traffic where parked cars narrow the road.
Afternoon tests may route near schools. Watch for school zones and crossing wardens.
