Kilbarrack is where you get real-world skills

Kilbarrack Road is deceptively busy, with traffic feeding in from Baldoyle and Howth. Grange Road has speed bumps, parked cars, and school zones. The Howth Road stretch carries fast-moving traffic with limited visibility at some junctions. Learning here means dealing with coastal roads, industrial area traffic near Baldoyle, and residential estate driving.

1 2

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

First lessons take place on the quieter estate roads off Grange Road. No bus traffic, no HGVs, just residential streets with parked cars and gentle junctions. Mirror checks, clutch control, and road positioning are established before the main roads.

L3-4: Direction Changes on Grange Road

Grange Road introduces the school zone, speed ramps, and estate junctions in quick succession. Lessons three and four cover left and right turns at the side streets, with your instructor focused on observation and signal timing at junctions where sightlines are blocked by parked cars.

L5-6: Complex Positioning at the Howth Road Junction

The Kilbarrack Road and Howth Road junction is the most demanding in the area. Lessons five and six approach it from multiple directions, building your reading of the traffic flow, the signal phases, and where to position for each turn before committing.

L7-8: Sharing Road Space with Industrial Traffic

Baldoyle Industrial Estate generates HGV and van traffic on Grange Road and Kilbarrack Road in the mornings. Lessons seven and eight cover driving alongside large vehicles, anticipating their wide turns at junctions, and holding a safe following distance on a narrow road.

L9-10: Howth Road Speed and Lane Discipline

By lesson nine you are driving the Howth Road (R105) corridor at speed. Bus lanes, faster traffic, and the merge from Kilbarrack Road all feature. Lane discipline, mirror checks at higher speed, and consistent following distance are what your instructor is watching for.

L11-12: Raheny Routes and Night Driving

Raheny Test Centre is 6 minutes from Kilbarrack DART Station. Lessons eleven and twelve run the full test loop through the Raheny roads and back, once in daylight and once at dusk. Emma from Kilbarrack nailed her turnabout on Grange Road in the final session and passed first time.

Driving lessons in Kilbarrack from Grange Road to Raheny Test Centre

Kilbarrack Road links Raheny to Baldoyle and it is deceptively busy. Delivery vans double-park outside the shopping centre, buses pull in and out of stops, and the right turn onto Howth Road needs quick gap judgment. Your instructor meets you at Kilbarrack DART Station or the shopping centre car park.

Grange Road is the other main artery. It runs parallel to the coast with a school zone near Grange Community College where 30 limits apply and children cross unpredictably. Speed ramps and estate junctions make it ideal for building control in the early lessons.

The Howth Road corridor is where your driving gets tested. Fast-moving traffic with bus lanes, and the Kilbarrack Road junction where three streams of traffic merge. By the time you sit your test, this junction is familiar ground.

Baldoyle Industrial Estate brings HGVs and vans onto the surrounding streets in the mornings. Sharing the road with large vehicles, reading their turning arcs, and holding your position is covered in the later EDT lessons.

Female instructors are available. Raheny Test Centre is 6 minutes from Kilbarrack DART Station. Manual single €53.27. 12-lesson EDT €587.95 at €49 per lesson. Six lessons €52.50 each. Automatic single €61.41, EDT auto €659.24. Pretest manual €183.63, auto €193.81.

Sean Tierney
Sean took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. Had my lessons in the Finglas area with Shane. Very professional instruction, good sense of humour and good at keeping nervous drivers at ease. Shane is patient and good at explaining the why and how behind the rules too. After my first failed test I started lessons with Shane and I advanced quicker than I had with 2 other instructors. 5/5.

Siddhartha Bhattacharyya
I was a student of RSA school of motoring and I had a wonderful experience from progressing through my EDTs to getting my license. I would like to thank Richard and Enes Zejnilovic who were my instructors. They went through all the minutia of all the rules of the road and how to pass your exam in the first attempt. Richard helped me before my test and prepared me to be confident, because of which I was able to pass my test in the first attempt. I passed my test in Finglas. For anyone looking to do their EDTs I would recommend you consider RSA school of motoring and also Richard!
