How Much Are Driving Lessons in Dublin?
Driving lessons in Dublin cost between €49 and €61.41 per hour, depending on transmission type and how many lessons you book together. Manual lessons start at €49 per hour when you book a 12-lesson package. A single manual lesson is €53.27. Automatic lessons start at €54.94 per hour for a 12-lesson pack, or €61.41 for a single lesson.
These are RSA School of Motoring prices. We are an RSA-approved driving school operating across Dublin since 2011. All lessons are one hour with a qualified ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) in a dual-control car. We pick you up at your home, college, or workplace anywhere in Dublin at no extra charge.
Booking in bulk saves money. The 12-lesson manual package works out over €50 cheaper than paying for 12 individual lessons. If you are starting your EDT, the 12-pack is the way to go.
Cost of EDT Lessons in Ireland
A full 12-lesson EDT course with RSA School of Motoring costs €587.95 for manual or €659.24 for automatic. Every learner permit holder in Ireland must complete 12 Essential Driver Training lessons before sitting the driving test. If you hold a recognised foreign licence, you may qualify for a reduced 6-lesson EDT.
Full EDT (12 lessons)
Manual: €587.95 (€49/hr). Automatic: €659.24 (€54.94/hr). Required for all first-time Irish learner permits. This is the most common package we sell.
Reduced EDT (6 lessons)
Manual: €315.01 (€52.50/hr). Automatic: €353.71 (€58.95/hr). For holders of certain foreign licences converting to an Irish licence. Check with the NDLS if you qualify.
Manual vs Automatic Lesson Prices
Automatic driving lessons cost about €6 more per hour than manual. A full 12-lesson automatic package is €659.24, compared to €587.95 for manual. That is a €71.29 difference over the full EDT course.
The price difference comes down to supply. There are fewer automatic instructors and the cars cost more to maintain. Demand for automatic lessons has been growing year on year, especially among learners in South Dublin and the city centre.
Not sure which to pick? If you plan to drive an automatic car, learn in one. If you want flexibility to drive both, learn manual. A manual licence lets you drive both. An automatic licence restricts you to automatic only.
What Affects Driving Lesson Prices?
Package Size
Booking more lessons together brings the per-lesson rate down. The 12-lesson pack saves over €50 compared to paying one lesson at a time. Even a 3-pack saves a few euro per hour.
Transmission Type
Automatic cars and instructors are in shorter supply. That pushes automatic lesson prices about €6 higher per hour than manual across all package sizes.
Location in Dublin
We charge the same rate everywhere in Dublin. Some schools add surcharges for South Dublin or city centre pickups. We do not. One price, any area.
Pretest Lessons and Car Hire
Price includes a one-hour lesson covering test routes and marking, plus car hire for the driving test itself. Your instructor will run through the test centre routes, mark any weak spots, and then hand you the car for the test. Most learners book this after finishing their EDT.
