Kilmacud is where test prep starts

Kilmacud Road Upper carries fast traffic from Stillorgan towards Dundrum. Lower Kilmacud Road is tighter with parked cars and estate entrances creating constant hazards. Stillorgan Road is a dual carriageway with lane merges and speed that catches new drivers off guard.

1 2

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

Larchfield Road is where first-timers start. Speed ramps keep the pace down and the residential layout gives you junction practice without pressure. Basic controls, gear changes, and positioning from the start.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Lower Kilmacud Road is the step up from the estates. It is long and mostly straight, which lets you focus on smooth gear changes, observation ahead, and signalling accuracy. Estate junctions off both sides mean you are turning often.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

The parked cars on Kilmacud Road Upper near the GAA club and the shops reduce the road to a single lane. Lessons 5 and 6 tackle this kind of hazard, teaching you to read the space, pick your moment, and hold position without drifting.

L7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

Match days and training evenings at Kilmacud Crokes bring pedestrians, parked cars on both footpaths, and drivers doing U-turns. Lessons 7 and 8 put you into mixed-traffic situations where the hazards are people-created, not road-created.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed

The Stillorgan Road (N11) is the main challenge at this stage. Joining a dual carriageway from Kilmacud side roads means selecting a gap in fast traffic and building speed quickly. Lessons 9 and 10 cover this thoroughly before adding the Stillorgan village roundabout.

L11-12: Calm Driving and Night Conditions

Beaumont Avenue and the quieter roads off Kilmacud Road are used for final polish. Low-light conditions on the N11 and Kilmacud Road Upper close out the programme. Calm, consistent, and test-ready by lesson 12.

Driving lessons in Kilmacud, from the GAA club to the N11

Kilmacud Road Upper runs from the Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club towards Dundrum. Parked cars near the club entrance narrow it to single file in stretches, and oncoming traffic means you are making constant judgement calls. This is a good road to learn on precisely because it does not let you switch off.

Lower Kilmacud Road is where most EDT lessons start. Long, straight, with estate junctions off both sides. Traffic is manageable and you can build speed awareness and observation habits without being overwhelmed. Larchfield Road and the roads behind it add cul-de-sac practice and turnabouts.

The Stillorgan Road (N11) is the progression point. A dual carriageway with fast-moving traffic. Merging onto it from the Kilmacud side requires gap judgement, mirror checks, and confidence. Most learners find this the single biggest step up in their training.

Pick-ups from Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club or the bus stop on Kilmacud Road. Female instructors available. Manual lessons are €53.27 single or €49 per lesson on the 12-lesson EDT pack (€587.95 total). Six lessons are €52.50 each. Automatic is €61.41 single, €54.94 per lesson on a 12-pack (€659.24 EDT). Pretest with car hire is €183.63 manual, €193.81 automatic.

Your test will be at Dun Laoghaire/Deansgrange, about 10 minutes away. We cover the specific test routes in your later lessons.

Samar Mitri
Samar took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. My experience with John was spotless. To everyone living in Blackrock or nearby, he is your man! Very professional, and was very clear when he used to give directions and new information. He say it in a way that you could memorize it. I passed my practical test from the first time! Thank you John.
