Dalkey roads will sharpen your driving

Castle Street is narrow, the parked cars never stop, and Coliemore Road has corners that test anyone. Dalkey looks picturesque but it demands real driving skill. Our instructors teach you how to handle every tight spot.

1 2

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

Ulverton Road is the starting point for lessons one and two. The road links Dalkey to Glasthule with enough parked cars and junctions to make things interesting, but the traffic pace is manageable. Clutch control, gear selection, and mirror routine are the focus.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Dalkey Avenue runs towards Killiney with a gentle gradient and a few junctions that need proper signal timing and approach speed control. Lessons three and four introduce uphill direction changes and the discipline of checking mirrors before every signal.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Coliemore Road puts you on a narrow coastal route with no footpath and passing points at irregular intervals. Lessons five and six focus on reading the road ahead, yielding correctly, and keeping a controlled speed through the bends near the harbour.

L7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

Sorrento Road is steep with high stone walls on both sides and limited visibility at the bends. Lessons seven and eight cover hill starts mid-slope, controlled braking on the descent, and managing oncoming traffic that appears suddenly around the corners.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed Management

Castle Street is the setting for lessons nine and ten. Narrow lane, pedestrians crossing freely, delivery vans stopped mid-road, and parked cars leaving very little margin. You build the patience and spatial awareness to handle it without stress.

Driving lessons in Dalkey on Castle Street and the coastal roads

Castle Street through Dalkey village is narrow, full of parked cars, and busy with pedestrians stepping out between them. Delivery vans stop without warning. Learning to read all of this simultaneously is exactly what your instructor builds towards. It is not the first lesson, but it is on the route before you are done with your EDT.

Ulverton Road links Dalkey to Glasthule and is a good early-lesson road. Residential, steady traffic, parked cars to watch. Dalkey Avenue runs towards Killiney with a gentle hill and school traffic at certain hours. Both of these roads give you proper experience without throwing you in the deep end.

Coliemore Road drops towards the harbour with no footpath in sections and narrow passing points. Sorrento Road is steep, winding, and has walls right up to the edge. Hill starts and clutch control become instinctive once you have driven both a few times.

We pick you up at Dalkey DART Station on Railway Road, outside Dalkey Castle on Castle Street, Coliemore Harbour car park outside of summer weekends, or the bus 59 stop on Castle Street. Female instructors available. Your test is at Dun Laoghaire Test Centre on Pottery Road, eight minutes from the village.

Manual EDT is €587.95 for all 12 lessons. Automatic EDT is €659.24. Single Manual lessons are €53.27 and single automatic are €61.41.

Samar took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. My experience with John was spotless. To everyone living in Blackrock or nearby, he is your man! Very professional, and was very clear when he used to give directions and new information. He say it in a way that you could memorize it. I passed my practical test from the first time! Zach took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. This was a great overall experience, from the booking process through the lessons. John was my instructor in D4/Deansgrange and was absolutely brilliant. During the lessons but also the prep for the test. I couldn’t have been more prepared and no doubt John is the reason I passed on my first try! Highly recommend!
