Driving in Deansgrange teaches you the hard stuff

1 2

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

York Road is an ideal starting point. Gentle bends and light traffic let you find your position and build clutch control without the pressure of junctions. Passing parked cars with clear observations comes first.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Clonkeen Road introduces speed ramps and residential junctions. You practise left turns into cul-de-sacs and right turns back onto the main road, building mirror discipline before busier roads appear.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Kill Lane brings school zone conditions. Clonkeen College traffic means parked cars, crossing pupils, and cautious drivers all at once. Reading the hazard early and adjusting speed is the skill this lesson builds.

L7-8: Sharing Road and Traffic

Deansgrange Road is a multi-use route with buses, cyclists, and delivery vehicles competing for space. You learn to scan ahead, hold your lane, and time bus stop passes correctly without cutting into the cycle lane.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed

The Kill Lane and Deansgrange Road junction requires clear signals and correct lane choice. Getting that right at speed, with traffic behind you, is the kind of confident decision-making that impresses testers.

L11-12: Calm Driving and Night Skills

Final lessons use Pottery Road itself, approaching and leaving the test centre. Evening sessions on Deansgrange Road build familiarity with changing light, parked delivery vans, and reduced visibility on darker stretches.

Driving lessons in Deansgrange on the same roads as your test

Deansgrange Road is one of the first roads your instructor will use with you. It is the backbone of the test routes from Dun Laoghaire test centre, and learning it early means you are practising the actual test from day one. Pickup is available at Kill Avenue Shops or the Pottery Road car park near the test centre.

Kill Lane connects Deansgrange to Foxrock and Cornelscourt. It has a school zone outside Clonkeen College where double parking and pedestrian crossings arrive together at school times. Managing both requires proper speed control and patience.

Clonkeen Road is narrower and more residential. It is useful for early lessons when you are still building confidence. Speed ramps slow the traffic and give you time to think about mirror checks and lane position.

York Road provides a quieter link towards Dun Laoghaire. Gentle bends and on-street parking on both sides make it good for passing practice without heavy traffic pressure.

Manual lessons are €53.27 single or €49 per lesson on the 12-pack. Automatic is €61.41 single, €54.94 on the 12-pack. EDT costs €587.95 manual or €659.24 auto. Pretest with car hire is €183.63 manual, €193.81 auto. Female instructors are available. Your test centre is Dun Laoghaire/Deansgrange on Pottery Road, less than a kilometre away.

Zach Gulick
Zach took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. This was a great overall experience, from the booking process through the lessons. John was my instructor in D4/Deansgrange and was absolutely brilliant. During the lessons but also the prep for the test. I couldn’t have been more prepared and no doubt John is the reason I passed on my first try! Highly recommend!

Laoise Brady
Laoise learned to drive with Jonathan in the dun laoghaire area. Cannot recommend Jonathan from RSA School of Motoring enough if you are learning to drive in the Dun Laoghaire/Deansgrange areas. He breaks everything down and makes learning how to drive really enjoyable! Helped me to pass my test first time with no stress at all !

Padraic Crawford
Padraic took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. I had Derek for my EDT, and it was an absolute pleasure learning to drive from him. Started my lessons in February, and within four months I had passed first time in dun Laoghaire/deansgrange, genuinely cannot recommend Derek more, outside of being an excellent driving instructor I felt he was a genuinely sound person.
