Terenure roads will sharpen your driving

Terenure Cross is one of the busiest junctions in south Dublin. Four roads meet, traffic lights cycle constantly, and pedestrians cross in every direction. Terenure Road carries heavy commuter traffic towards Rathmines. Rathfarnham Road feeds in from the south with school-run volumes that peak sharply at 8:30am and 3pm. Learning here means learning to handle real pressure at real junctions.

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

Bushy Park Road is where the first lessons happen. Light traffic, gentle bends, and easy pullover spots make it the best road in Terenure for cockpit drill, steering practice, and getting comfortable with the car before tackling the Cross.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Fortfield Road runs east through the Kimmage estates with regular speed ramps and T-junctions where walls block your sightlines. Lessons three and four use this road to teach you to creep, peek, and commit at junctions with restricted visibility.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Templeogue Road between Terenure and Templeogue Village carries residential traffic with speed ramps, school zones, and side roads entering from both sides. Lessons five and six develop your hazard awareness on a road that is busy without being overwhelming.

L7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

Rathfarnham Road heading south brings bus lanes and a cycle lane into the mix. Lessons seven and eight teach you the mirror checks and lane positioning needed when there are three distinct lanes and school traffic peaking on either side of the road.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed Management

Terenure Cross is the focus across lessons nine and ten. Four roads, traffic lights with multiple phases, bus stops just beyond the junction, and pedestrian crossings all demanding attention at once. Your instructor approaches from every arm of the junction until your timing is clean.

L11-12: Calm Driving and Night Conditions

The Terenure Road north towards Rathmines and the run south on Rathfarnham Road both feature in the final lessons. Night and low-light awareness on these commuter routes, and the full run to Tallaght Test Centre, close out your twelve EDT lessons.

Joanne McCrudden
Joanne took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. My son had a great driving experience under the guidance of instructor Andy. He completed his EDT lessons with Andy and only needed a couple of additional lessons before completing and passing his test. His lessons and test were in Tallaght and the help and support from Andy gave him the confidence and skills to pass on his first attempt. We would highly recommend Andy as an instructor especially for new young drivers as that was our experience.

Stefan Wroblewski
I passed my driving test on the first attempt with Jonathan in an automatic, and I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking to build their confidence behind the wheel. As a nervous and inexperienced driver without my own car, I had tried lessons with other instructors and schools, but Jonathan and RSA School of Motoring were by far the best fit. Their booking system was the easiest to use, and the lessons were structured, supportive, and tailored to my pace. It’s clear that Jonathan genuinely cares about helping learners become safe, confident drivers, not just passing a test. His calm, encouraging approach made all the difference. My lessons were between Dublin 12, Tallaght, and finally in Dun Laoghaire.
