Clonskeagh is where you get real-world skills

Clonskeagh Road carries heavy through-traffic between Donnybrook and Dundrum. Bird Avenue has a tricky junction at the Clonskeagh end and fast-moving traffic near the N11. Roebuck Road is narrower than it looks, with parked cars and a few blind spots near the residential turns.

Nearby Test Centre

Rathgar, 3km away (10 mins). Often includes Clonskeagh routes in test itinerary.

Your EDT programme in Clonskeagh

Twelve structured lessons across Bird Avenue, Roebuck Road, and the Clonskeagh Bridge junction. Each lesson builds on the last.

1 2

L1-2: Controls and Positioning

Your first two lessons focus on cockpit checks, gear changes, and finding your road position. We use Vergemount and the quiet side streets off Clonskeagh Road for this. Low traffic, wide enough roads, and space to repeat until it clicks.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Bird Avenue is the setting for lessons three and four. The gentle curves and speed ramps are ideal for practising smooth acceleration, braking, and signal timing at the junctions with Clonskeagh Road. You also start managing speed through the residential sections.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Roebuck Road introduces parked-car hazards and road narrowing. You learn to read ahead, hold a steady position, and decide when to give way. The residential turns off Roebuck towards Goatstown add junction observation into the mix.

L7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

Clonskeagh Road carries buses, cyclists, and pedestrians crossing between parked cars. Lessons seven and eight put you into that mix. Bus lane awareness, mirror checks before every move, and timing at the Clonskeagh Bridge traffic lights are all covered here.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed Management

The Clonskeagh Bridge junction where Milltown Road converges with the traffic lights is the focus of lesson nine. Lesson ten moves to the N11 junction at Stillorgan Road. Filter lanes, fast traffic from both directions, and lane selection under pressure.

L11-12: Consolidation and Night Driving

The final two lessons pull everything together. We run full mock test routes through Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, and out towards the Rathgar Test Centre. Night driving is introduced on the quieter sections of Bird Avenue and Vergemount.

Driving lessons in Clonskeagh on Bird Avenue and beyond

Bird Avenue runs from Clonskeagh through to the UCD end at Foster Avenue. It is a tree-lined road with speed ramps and a junction at the Clonskeagh Road end that catches people out with its angle. Your first lessons use Bird Avenue and the quiet residential streets off Vergemount to build clutch control and basic positioning.

Clonskeagh Road itself is the next step. Bus lanes, cycle lanes, and the bridge over the River Dodder all come into play. The bridge junction where Milltown Road meets the traffic lights is one of those intersections that takes a few passes to read properly. We cover it until it feels routine.

Roebuck Road takes you south towards Goatstown and it narrows with parked cars in stretches. Judging gaps and knowing when to wait for oncoming traffic is something we practise here early on. The N11 junction at the Stillorgan Road end is good preparation for faster-moving dual carriageway traffic.

Pickup points include the bus stop on Clonskeagh Road near Bird Avenue, Smurfit Business School on Clonskeagh Road, or the Windy Arbour Luas stop a short walk away. Female instructors are available on request.

Most Clonskeagh learners test at Rathgar Test Centre on the Rathgar Road. Some are assigned to Dun Laoghaire. We prepare you for either route, focusing on the specific junctions and roads that come up. Manual EDT costs €587.95 for all 12 lessons.

Kel
I just past my test in Churchtown and I give full credit to RSA school of motoring and in particular Aidan Brereton (and his red dot!!) I am an extremely nervous driver who has failed 2 previous tests. I have taken lessons from other schools of motoring but RSA were by far the easiest to deal with, from talking to James on the phone to the instructors. I had 2 pre tests the two days leading up to my test. Thanks to Aidan the day before the test, I was able to focus better and to control my nerves (and not focus on any mistakes leading me to make more). Both instructors (James Dowling and Aidan) had a great attitude towards the testers which i have found other instructors have not. They got it into my head to do my best and that the testers were in fact not just out to fail me!!

Mary took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. I'm very grateful to my driving instructor, Jonathan, who gives lessons in South Dublin, including the Dundrum area. He is an excellent instructor, super professional, highly experienced and very patient. He focuses on success and has covered all aspects of driving needed to pass my test. RSA School of Motoring has an excellent website for booking and reebooking lessons. The support team are very good. I highly recommend this school and especially this instructor.

I had an excellent experience with my driving instructor Derek from Clondalkin, ADI 38295, at the beginning of May, this year. I had taken lessons previously with another instructor, but had failed to passed the test. On my second attempt, I opted for two lessons the week of my test, one of them on the day, right before the test itself. I was successful, and passed my test! Part of my success was due to Derek and his style of teaching. He was friendly, relaxed, informative and thorough.

Matthew Jennings
Matthew took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. Shane was my Driving Instructor. I passed my driving test on the first attempt thanks to Shane. He guided me through all 12 EDT lessons and pre-tests, and I’d highly recommend him. Shane explains everything clearly, using diagrams to make tricky situations easy to understand. He always took time to explain every question I had and make sure I understood. He’s incredibly patient, professional, and friendly and an excellent instructor. I Highly Recommend Shane!
