Belfield is where test prep starts

The N11 runs right past Belfield and it is one of the busiest dual carriageways in south Dublin. Foster Avenue carries fast traffic with limited pedestrian crossings. University Road and the UCD campus roads have their own patterns, with students crossing constantly and delivery traffic stopping without warning.

Nearby Test Centre

Rathgar, 5km away (14 mins). Often includes Belfield routes in test itinerary.

Key Local Roads

12 EDT lessons on Belfield roads

Your lessons cover UCD campus roads, Roebuck Road, and the Stillorgan Road (N11). Real Belfield traffic from lesson one.

1 2

L1-2: Car Controls on Foster Avenue

Foster Avenue is tree-lined and wide, making it a good place to get your first feel for the car. Speed ramps give you natural pause points to work on smooth braking and finding the clutch bite point. You will be surprised how quickly it clicks.

L3-4: Direction on University Road

University Road runs along the UCD perimeter with pedestrian crossings and students crossing at all hours. You will work on giving way correctly, reading signals early, and keeping your road position steady through the bends past the Arts Block.

L5-6: Positioning on Roebuck Road

Roebuck Road links Belfield south to Clonskeagh with parked cars narrowing the lane in spots. Oncoming traffic creates tight passing situations. These lessons build your spatial awareness and mirror discipline until passing feels routine.

L7-8: Traffic on Clonskeagh Road

Clonskeagh Road carries buses, cyclists, and commuter traffic towards Milltown and Dundrum. The Clonskeagh Bridge junction brings filter lanes and pedestrian lights into the same space. You learn to read and hold position when everything is happening at once.

L9-10: Speed on Stillorgan Road (N11)

Merging from the UCD exits onto the N11 is the defining challenge in Belfield. Fast buses, lorries, and multi-lane traffic demand assertive observation and quick mirror checks. By lesson ten you should be doing this with confidence.

L11-12: Night Driving near Belfield

Later lessons include low-light and evening driving on the N11 and Clonskeagh Road. Headlight reflection on wet roads and reduced depth perception on Foster Avenue are both covered. Night driving preparation is part of your EDT, not an add-on.

Kel
I just past my test in Churchtown and I give full credit to RSA school of motoring and in particular Aidan Brereton (and his red dot!!) I am an extremely nervous driver who has failed 2 previous tests. I have taken lessons from other schools of motoring but RSA were by far the easiest to deal with, from talking to James on the phone to the instructors. I had 2 pre tests the two days leading up to my test. Thanks to Aidan the day before the test, I was able to focus better and to control my nerves (and not focus on any mistakes leading me to make more). Both instructors (James Dowling and Aidan) had a great attitude towards the testers which i have found other instructors have not. They got it into my head to do my best and that the testers were in fact not just out to fail me!!

Mary took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. I'm very grateful to my driving instructor, Jonathan, who gives lessons in South Dublin, including the Dundrum area. He is an excellent instructor, super professional, highly experienced and very patient. He focuses on success and has covered all aspects of driving needed to pass my test. RSA School of Motoring has an excellent website for booking and reebooking lessons. The support team are very good. I highly recommend this school and especially this instructor.

I had an excellent experience with my driving instructor Derek from Clondalkin, ADI 38295, at the beginning of May, this year. I had taken lessons previously with another instructor, but had failed to passed the test. On my second attempt, I opted for two lessons the week of my test, one of them on the day, right before the test itself. I was successful, and passed my test! Part of my success was due to Derek and his style of teaching. He was friendly, relaxed, informative and thorough.

I recently passed my test and my instructor was William Rooney. this man is more than qualified to make you pass the test, he handled himself with complete and utter respect, professionalism and diligence. he has more than a few tricks up his sleeve to help anyone pass the test, all while he makes sure your safe on the road. I recommend to anyone who needs lessons to give Will a call, while I was on the waiting list for a year I didn’t do a single lesson and 3 days before the test I had a 2 hour lesson with will and he had me good to go. thanks again Will and I wish you the very best in all aspects of life ( I do recommend you do more than a 2 hour lesson especially 3 days before test on top off the 12 you need ).
