Castleknock is where you get real-world skills

Castleknock Road is narrow and carries heavy traffic between the Navan Road and the village. Auburn Avenue has school traffic at drop-off and pick-up times. Carpenterstown Road feeds commuters towards the M50. The Phoenix Park gates add tourist and recreational traffic that doesn't follow normal patterns. Learning in Castleknock means dealing with tight village roads and fast commuter routes.

EDT lessons built for Castleknock traffic

Every lesson maps to real Castleknock roads. Auburn Avenue, Castleknock Road, and the routes to Mulhuddart Test Centre.

1 2

L1-2: Car Controls and Positioning

You begin on Auburn Avenue, where the estate roads are wide and the traffic is light. Controls, mirror setting, and moving off cleanly without the pressure of a main road. Plenty of junctions and left turns to work through at a manageable pace.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

College Road introduces a steadier flow of traffic with hospital access points to watch. You practise reading junctions early, signalling in time, and matching speed to the road before the approach to Connolly Hospital.

L5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Castleknock Road through the village tests your positioning under pressure. Parked cars on both sides, a bus stop mid-stretch, and pedestrians near the shops. These lessons focus on scanning ahead and passing hazards without braking hard.

L7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

The Phoenix Park roads from Castleknock Gate are deceptively challenging. Wide lanes with a 30km/h limit, deer crossings, cyclists without lights, and tourist drivers unsure of where they are going. Hazard awareness runs at a higher rate than the speed.

L9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed Management

Carpenterstown Road runs through roundabouts before the merge onto the N3 Navan Road. These lessons repeat the sequence until the lane choice and mirror timing stop feeling rushed. Speed judgment on the dual carriageway slip road is the main goal.

L11-12: Calm Driving and Night Conditions

Final lessons run from the Castleknock commuter station through the quieter back roads near Farmleigh. Evening conditions, unfamiliar junctions, and the consistent observation standard needed to pass at Mulhuddart are the focus here.

Driving lessons in Castleknock, from Auburn Avenue to the Navan Road

Castleknock Road through the village is narrow and busy. Parked cars, a bus stop, and pedestrians near the shops make it feel tighter than it is. The road is short but it packs in a lot of hazards for early learners.

Auburn Avenue runs through the residential estates and is where most first lessons happen. Wide enough for confidence, with enough junctions to practise left and right turns before moving to busier roads.

Carpenterstown Road connects the village to Blanchardstown. Roundabouts, commuter traffic, and the run-up to the N3 dual carriageway. The merge onto the Navan Road is where learners need patience and decisive mirror-signal-manoeuvre.

College Road links out to Connolly Hospital and carries hospital access traffic and the occasional emergency vehicle. A useful introduction to sharing space with larger, faster vehicles.

Pickup from Castleknock village shops, the commuter station on the Phoenix Park tunnel line, Connolly Hospital car park, or the pull-in at Castleknock Gate. Female instructors available. Manual €53.27 single, €49/lesson 12-pack. EDT €587.95 manual. Pretest €183.63 manual including car hire. Automatic €61.41 single.

Laura trained with Richard. I completed my EDT lessons with Richard in the Clonee / Blanchardstown area. He is a great instructor, very knowledgeable, patient and helpful, which made me more confident in each lesson as they went. His explanations were very clear, thorough and easy to understand which made my learning experience on the road that bit smoother and more comfortable. After each lesson, he gave honest and detailed feedback with valuable advice which helped me improve so much when practicing. I definitely recommend him as an instructor. Thanks again Richie.

Ben Purdy
I had the privilege to do my driving lessons with Florin in Mulhudart and Blanchardstown, I started in January 2023 and finished my 12 lessons in April that year. I had to wait a year to be granted a test date and resumed my lessons with Florin, he was the most helpful, kind, co-operative and patient driving instructor that I could've wished for when doing my driving lessons, I never felt pressure from him but more so I gained confidence when driving in his company and it made the learning very easy to have an instructor with this level of patience along side me, as well as his great level of communication. I managed to pass my test first time in May of this year and just want to take this time to thank him for his excellent teachings to help me achieve this goal which then allowed me to gain my drivers license. An excellent instructor who I would highly recommend to anybody starting their lessons with RSA driving school.
