Driving in North Wall teaches you the hard stuff

North Wall Quay is wide and fast, with HGVs heading to Dublin Port day and night. Sheriff Street Upper has been rebuilt but the junction layouts still confuse new drivers. Mayor Street in the IFSC is all one-way systems and Luas crossings. Getting your bearings in the docklands takes proper practice.

Your EDT covers North Wall traffic patterns. From quiet estate roads to North Wall Quay at peak time.

1 2

Lesson 1-2: Controls and Positioning

Your first lessons take place on the quieter stretches around New Wapping Street, away from the Quay traffic. Short distances, slow speeds, and building your feel for the car before the Docklands roads get involved.

Lesson 3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Sheriff Street Upper gives you a long, regenerated road to work on direction changes at new junctions. Speed ramps keep things manageable while you practise turning and reading signage without pressure.

Lesson 5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards

Mayor Street Upper in the IFSC is the shared space lesson. Pedestrians have priority in parts of this zone. You will work on positioning, slow-speed control, and reading what pedestrians are about to do before they do it.

Lesson 7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic

North Wall Quay at peak time is buses, vans, and Luas trams all in the same space. This lesson focuses on Luas track crossings, bus lane rules, and keeping a safe distance in fast-moving quayside traffic.

Lesson 9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed

The Tom Clarke Bridge approach from the north side requires lane selection well before the merge point. Miss it and you end up on the wrong side of the Liffey. This lesson drills the approach, the choice, and the execution.

Lesson 11-12: Calm Driving and Night Conditions

Event nights at the 3Arena change the whole character of North Wall Quay. Extra pedestrians, slow-moving traffic, and vehicles double-parked near Point Square. Your final lessons cover driving with patience when conditions are against you.

Driving lessons in North Wall, Luas tracks, quays, and all

North Wall Quay runs along the Liffey through the heart of the Docklands. Wide, yes, but the Luas Red Line tracks cut across it and you cannot stop on them. Your instructor will pick you up at The Point Luas stop or Mayor Square and start there, where the docklands roads are at their most specific.

Mayor Street Upper is shared space territory. Low speed limits, office workers stepping out between cars, and very little room for error. You learn to slow down and watch, not just look.

Manual lessons cost €53.27 per hour, or €49 per lesson on the 12-pack. The 6-pack is €52.50 per lesson. The full EDT is €587.95. Automatic starts at €61.41 single or €54.94 per lesson on the 12-pack. Pretest with car hire is €183.63 manual, €193.81 automatic.

Female instructors are available. Your test centre is Raheny, about 16 minutes via East Wall Road and Alfie Byrne Road. That route is part of your EDT from the beginning.

Sheriff Street Upper and the Tom Clarke Bridge are covered later in training, once your lane discipline is solid. The bridge approach on the north side has a tricky merge that catches people out.

I completed my lessons with Richard around the Cabra area in Dublin. He was recommended to me by my partner who passed his driving test the first time with Richard's help! I can't recommend Richard enough. He is thorough, easy to deal with & such a great teacher. I had absolutely no idea about cars and had never driven before. He explains things in a simple, pragmatic way & gave me the confidence I didn't know I had, especially while driving in Dublin city.

Passed on the first attemp! Full credit must go to the RSA and Jonathan who was my instructor. Jonathan helped my driving improve so much, he gave me confidence when doing part of the lesson well, clarity on what I could improve on and assurance that I would be ready to pass my test when it came. I've tried other insturctors in the past but his teaching techniques were absolutely spot on. Also the ease of booking through the website is fantastic too!
