L1-2: Controls and Positioning
Newcastle Boulevard is a newer residential road with wide lanes and speed ramps. Your first two lessons use this road to establish mirror routine, clutch control, and car positioning without the pressure of open road traffic just outside the estate.
Learn about EDTL3-4: Direction and Speed
The village main street combines direction changes at the junction with the Dublin Bus 68 stop and shop traffic. Lessons three and four build direction work at the village crossroads and introduce the speed transition from village limit to the open road on the eastern approach.
EDT detailsL5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards
Peamount Road south of the village has blind bends where hedgerows block sightlines entirely. Lessons five and six are about positioning on the correct side of the road before the bend, reducing speed early, and reading the road surface for clues about what is coming.

Greenogue Business Park Road introduces HGV traffic. Large trucks use this road throughout the day. Lessons seven and eight teach you to hold your position when a truck passes close, manage your lane width, and pull in safely when the road narrows.

Newcastle Road (R120) running east towards Rathcoole carries fast traffic at 80km/h. Lessons nine and ten focus on speed management on open single carriageway, joining the road from the village limit, and managing the transition points where the limit changes.

Newcastle Road (R120) runs through the village with a 50km/h limit that opens to 80km/h on the other side. The change happens fast and learners who are used to town roads are caught out by how quickly the road opens up. Your instructor picks you up at Newcastle Village Centre or the community centre car park on Newcastle Road.

Peamount Road is the country road section. Hedgerows line the route and visibility at bends is limited. Your instructor trains you to position the car correctly and use your speed to leave enough stopping distance when the road bends away.
Greenogue Business Park brings HGV traffic onto the roads around Newcastle. Sharing a lane with trucks at close range is something you practise deliberately. Spatial awareness builds fast in those conditions.
