Car Controls and Road Position
Your first lessons start on Castle Avenue, where the narrow road and parked cars on both sides mean you learn straight away why positioning matters. Getting comfortable with the clutch, steering, and mirrors in a tight space builds habits that stick. By the end of L2, moving off and stopping smoothly on a quiet residential street feels like second nature.
Learn about EDTChanging Direction and Speed
Vernon Avenue and its roundabout introduce you to reading traffic and picking your moment. L3 covers turning left and right on controlled junctions, then L4 brings in the roundabout itself where multiple lanes of traffic converge. Judging speed on the approach and holding your lane through the exit is the skill you take away.
EDT detailsComplex Positioning and Hazard Awareness
Howth Road throws everything at you: parked cars jutting out, narrow sections near the hillside, and oncoming traffic that does not always leave much room. L5 focuses on positioning around hazards, and L6 adds the decision-making layer when multiple hazards appear at once. You will know this road well before you are done.
Test preparationSharing the Road with Other Traffic
Clontarf Road during the morning commute is one of the busiest coastal routes into Dublin city, with buses, cyclists, and pedestrians all mixed in together. L7 puts you in that traffic and teaches you to read what everyone else is doing before they do it. L8 extends that to giving space, holding back, and timing your moves without rushing.
Test preparationComplex Junctions and Higher Speeds
The run along Seafield Road and out toward the Bull Island causeway gives you a proper stretch of open road to build speed confidence in L9. L10 brings you back into complex junctions where the give-way rules are less obvious and traffic comes from angles you have to anticipate. Both lessons tie Clontarf's mix of open coast and tight residential access into one session.
View optionsDriving Independently and After Dark
By L11 you are driving through St. Anne's Park and the surrounding roads with less input from your instructor, making your own reads on traffic and priority. L12 moves the session to the evening, covering Dollymount Strand's access road and the Clontarf Road seafront where streetlighting thins out and parked cars sit close to the carriageway. Night driving here teaches you to trust your lights and your own judgement.
Book nowDriving lessons in Clontarf, from the Coast Road to Vernon Avenue
Clontarf Road runs along the coast from the Promenade all the way into the city, and it is one of the busiest commute routes on the northside. That southbound crawl between 8 and 9 in the morning is exactly the kind of traffic your lessons will prepare you for. We pick up at Clontarf Bus Stop, Killester DART Station, and St. Anne's Park, so getting started is easy no matter where you are.
Most of our learners here book the 12-lesson manual pack at €49 per lesson. If you prefer to start smaller, a 6-pack comes in at €52.50 per lesson, or a single lesson is €53.27. Automatic lessons are available at €54.94 per lesson on the 12-pack, or €61.41 for a single.
Howth Road and Castle Avenue are both narrow with parked cars on either side, and Vernon Avenue throws a busy multi-exit roundabout into the mix. Your instructor will bring you through all of it in a sensible order, building up to the trickier stuff once the basics are solid.
The primary test centre is Killester, about seven minutes away. If you are doing EDT, the full 12-session manual programme is €587.95, or €659.24 in an automatic. A pretest lesson with car hire for the test day is €183.63 manual, €193.81 automatic.

Recently completed and passed my test, first time, with Barry Meehan. Had 4 pre test lessons with Barry in Killester. He helped idendify, focus on, and tidy up a few a few things before the test. Excellent communication before, during and after lessons. Lessons were always relaxed, Barry has a very calm and reassuring demeanour about him.. Driving for Dublin Bus for 20 years I imagine he's seen it all on the roads!

View on Google MapsJennifer took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. Could not recommend highly enough. I did a pre Test from Raheny, They were able to accommodate a last minute appointment. The instructer's name was Alan, he was a very good instructer, correcting any of my bad habbits. But my nerves were my biggest issue, and he was very understanding and talked me through them. I was able to face my test more confident in my abilities. Delighted to say, i passed my test.
