Ballymun is where test prep starts

Ballymun Road is a wide, fast dual carriageway that feeds straight into the M50 junction. The speed changes from 50km/h residential zones to 80km/h in a short stretch, and learners need to handle that transition smoothly. Shangan Road and Glasnevin Avenue North are quieter but have their own challenges with parked cars and estate junctions. The M50 interchange at Junction 4 is where many learners get nervous, so we spend real time on merging and lane changes there.

1 2

L1-2: Car Controls and Positioning

First lessons use Shangan Road and the estate roads off it. Speed ramps, pedestrian crossings, and mini-roundabouts introduce hazard awareness from day one without the pressure of fast traffic.

L3-4: Direction Changes and Speed

Glasnevin Avenue North connects Ballymun to Glasnevin with parked cars and narrow stretches along the way. Changing direction here, with limited visibility at junctions, is steady early-stage work.

Amador Rey Bellosillo
I was fortunate in having Richard guide me through the whole process of obtaining a driving licence. I've been driving for years, but I was never used to doing it on the left-hand side. His patience and no-nonsense approach to instructing is marvelous. It helped me a lot in familiarising myself with Irish rules and style of driving. We went through various routes in Finglas and this gave me confidence in the driving test, especially considering Finglas's reputation with success rates. I passed my test, and I have Richard to thank for achieving this milestone.

Sean Tierney
Sean took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. Had my lessons in the Finglas area with Shane. Very professional instruction, good sense of humour and good at keeping nervous drivers at ease. Shane is patient and good at explaining the why and how behind the rules too. After my first failed test I started lessons with Shane and I advanced quicker than I had with 2 other instructors. 5/5.
